U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Rural Hospital Provider Assistance Program

Program Description

The purpose of this program is to provide support to eligible rural hospitals facing structural payment disadvantages for the maintenance of health care providers with the goal of maintaining essential health care services and preventing avoidable closures.

Eligibility

hospitals that meet the following criteria to receive payments: have no more than 50 acute care inpatient beds; have an established wage index value of less than 0.90 as determined by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) under section 1886(d)(3)(E) of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 1395ww(d)(3)(E)); and are located in a rural area as defined by the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy
